Sis. Alma J. Anderson

Sis. Alma Jene Anderson, 75, of Centreville, MS departed this earthly life of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her residence in Centerville, MS. Sis. Alma Jene Anderson was born on July 14, 1951, in Centreville, Mississippi, to the late Ruby Jean Collins and Ancil Lee Washington. Alma was adopted and reared by the late Junius and Matilda Gibson. She attended school in Wilkinson County, graduating in 1969 from Wilkinson County High School. She was also an alumna of Alcorn State University, where she earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science Degree. She retired from the Wilkinson County School District after 40 years of dedicated service, serving as a secretary, classroom teacher, and lead teacher. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Curtis Lee Anderson for 35 years, and to this union one son, Lakendrick Anderson, was born. Sister Anderson was a faithful member of Centreville Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jack Brown, Jr. She faithfully served as president of the Senior Choir and director of the Youth Department. She was also active in Sunday School, Bible classes, and various church services at Centreville and St. John. Sis. Anderson was a mentor and role model to the women of the church, especially the wives. She was also a devoted caregiver to her dear friend, Mary Reese, and her son, Nathaniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lee Anderson; her biological and adopted parents; stepmother; grandparents; two sisters; five brothers; three brothers-in-law; and one great-grandchild . She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one son, Lakendrick Anderson; one daughter she raised, Kendreka Pipes (Spencer); one stepson, Daniel Weathersby; one stepdaughter, Vallilery Covington; grandchildren, Brittany, Alexis, LaKendra, Camry, Amoni, Lakendria, Lakendrick; great-grandchildren, LaKimbra, Terrione, Zaniya, Jeremiah, Kyree, Karter, and KyMari; a godchild who lived with her and called her “Grandma,” Ryleigh Kelly; a godson, James Lee, Jr.; sisters, Brenda (Randy) Posey, Barbara Melson, Angela Washington, and Annie Washington; brothers, Leroy Collins, Ancil Washington, Jr., and Archie Washington; sisters-in-law, Minnie Anderson, Clementine (Johnnie) Bolden, and Gracie’s son; brother-in-law, Willie (Ruthie) Anderson; one aunt-in-law, Minnie Covington; her adopted/extended family, including Mary Reese and sons; Sierra and Jay Jackson and children; Shannon and Garrick Watts and children; Kelvin and Tina Douglas and children; Angela Hines and children; Mary L. Gillian (Chicago); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She also leaves the Centreville and St. John Church Family (one church in two locations).
