Ms Vickie D. Knox

Ms. Vickie Knox, 62, of Fredericksburg, VA departed this earthly life on Wednesday January 8, 2025. Visitation 10:00am-11:00am Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Liberty, MS. Service following at 11:00AM with Rev. Skipper Cain officiating Interment following in the church cemetery. Vickie was born on May 2, 1963, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Mildred and Herbert Knox. Vickie entered school in Liberty, MS. During her middle school years, the family relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY. She continued her education there. Vickie graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in June 1981 and soon after, entered the Army in December of 1982 and transferred over to the Air Force in December of 1998. Vickie started her education journey by earning her associate’s degree in health care management from the Community College of the Air Force in 1998. She continued with another associate’s degree in applied science—education training management—in 2005. In 2009 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from National-Louis University. She had a love for contracting and earned a certificate in Government Contracting in 2012. Her final degree was her master’s from the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology. She received her Master of Arts in Procurement and Acquisitions Management in December of 202013. After a stellar educational journey, she retired from the military on May 2, 2023. Vickie was a special kind of person. She led a good life not just for herself, her children, and her grandchildren, but for her extended family as well. At times one would think she was a recruiter for the military. There were a few takers. She offered a helping hand to many extended family members, same as she did for her siblings. Kie was an amazing woman. A mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to the others. She leaves to cherish her memories; her daughter, Shamika D. Gray; her granddaughter, Amaris J. Gray; her grandson, Isaiah Melton; her mother, Mildred Knox of Liberty, MS; four sisters, Linda Weathersby of Summit, Loria Knox of Poughkeepsie, NY, Vera Smith of Woodbury, and Angela Knox of Port Jervis, NY; five brothers, Tommy L. Knox, Perry Knox of Liberty, MS, Stevie Knox, Willie and Ronald W. Knox of Poughkeepsie, NY; several nieces and nephews of Liberty, MS, Poughkeepsie, NY, Connecticut, and Kingston, NY; and a host of other relatives.
